During Black Lives Matter protests around the world in Summer 2020, a Black Toronto-based influencer named Sasha Exeter went public with the treatment she had experienced at the hands of Jessica Mulroney, best friend of Meghan Markle. It’s a complicated story that demonstrates the insidious, quiet nature that racism can take. Also, by trying to hide behind Meghan Markle’s race, Mulroney is using Black identity as a shield for criticism. Here is my explanation of it from the Royal Analysis Instagram in June 2020.
