It’s official. This morning (afternoon London time), Buckingham Palace released the following statement on Harry and Meghan’s status as working members of the British Royal Family:
Harry and Meghan’s people were quick to put out a statement that was, in diplomatic terms, “a bit sharp”:
The patronages lost by either or both Harry and Meghan are:
- The Royal Marines
- RAF Honington
- Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving
- The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust
- The Rugby Football Union
- The Rugby Football League
- The Royal National Theatre
- The Association of Commonwealth Universities
The loss of Harry’s military patronages in particular will sting, as he proudly served in the military and was deployed overseas to fight on the ground twice in Afghanistan.
It’s also pretty clear that if Harry and Meghan’s upcoming (still to be filmed) interview with Oprah Winfrey wasn’t going to be a scathing indictment of the British Royal Family and how they were treated when they were working in it, it will be now.
I’m sure there will be many twists and turns and updates to this story, which I will provide when they come out. Let me know your thoughts below or via the contact section of my site. Very interested to hear your thoughts. Support me via Square here, stay safe, and wear a mask.
